Winter Bedroom Decorations

This year I hope to do more decorating in my room according to the season or occasion. I also hope to keep it more tidy and clean! I feel that January is a good time to clear out and decorate so I have decided to make my room more suited for winter. Below is what I have done:

This year I have decided to wrap a winter evergreen wreath around my bed. I brought the wreath from TK Maxx. I have also brought some new winter bedding from H and M. I love how well this bedding goes with my blue blanket and glittery pillow. The blanket and pillow were both brought as a christmas present for me a couple of years ago.

I just love candles! I decided to include evergreen that fell off the wreath (shown on my bed) by the candle. This lovely candle was also a christmas gift for me. My bedroom will always have a candle inside and I feel that they make my bedroom look more cosy and relaxing.

So here is what my room will look like for most of this winter! The next time that I hope to decorate my room is during Valentine’s Day. Hope you like this!

Favourite Beauty Products discovered in 2019. Hoping to use them more in 2020!

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye

As I have got older, I have noticed that the skin under my eyes are starting to look more tired and little more puffy. In addition to age, I reckon that this is due to dehydration as well. The skin under your eyes is very thin meaning that it’s the area to show earlier sights of ageing. Since using this product, I feel that the puffiness doesn’t look as obvious. Even if you haven’t developed wrinkles yet, I would still recommend an eye care cream as the right one will delay them from appearing. This is only a travel one that I got free from the Estee Lauder Christmas Gift Set. I am hoping to buy the bigger eye repair serum when this runs out.

Aussie Miracle Moist Set

Due to one of my 2019 goals being taking better care of my hair, I’ve learnt that the key is hydration. I am prone to frizzy hair, which will happen due to dryness and lack of moisture. Whenever little parts of my hair stick out it is screaming for water! I love using Aussie products for my hair. I have discovered that the Moist Aussie collection have really moisturised my hair which have helped control the frizziness and dryness. The smell is still amazing and my hair feels so soft. I have even noticed my hair getting thicker and longer!

Argan+ lip balms and skin products

My mum brought me a Argan+ nourishing lip balm as she saw good reviews on the product. I would back these reviews 100% as my lips are always moisturised whenever I apply this product – even after taking Roaccutane drugs, which led to my lips being painfully dry! During the winter months, I have recently brought the soothing lip balm which I feel does the same thing but it is a bit better. This led me to trying out the Argan+ body exfoliator and shower moisturiser that I use in the bath, making my skin feel so refreshed and moisturised.

Estee Lauder Brow Multi-Tasker

I love how this product has so many functions. I use it to tidy my eyebrow with the brush and then use the powder to colour in the gaps. As my eyebrows are naturally in good shape and in fullness, this product is perfect for me!

NAKED Honey eye palette

I just love the shimmery shades of gold and brown in this palette. It is really suited to my hazel eye colour. The colours in this palette are well pigmented with a lot of glitter. I love that this eye palette is versatile, I can use this palette for nights out and use it for work.

Liz Earle Face Exfoliator

It is recommended to exfoliate twice a week for fresh, healthy skin. As I have sensitive skin, I love this Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish as it is very gentle on the skin. I tend to use this twice a week, as recommended, by putting a small amount on a dry face (with or without make up). I then put warm water on a Liz Earle cotton cloth where I gently massage this on my face. Afterwards I throw cold water on my face then leave it to dry naturally before doing my usual night skincare routine.

Ideas to beat the January Blues!

Christmas is over, all of the sudden it’s January! Even though it is the start of a new year, for a lot of people, January is usually the worst month of the year. Some people have spent a lot of money on christmas and some people feel low as the festive season is over. People may feel fat due to the amount that they have eaten for the past few days and there is just not much to look forward to in January. The cold gets to a lot of people as well, where the lack of sunlight leads to people usually having low, irritable moods and constantly wishing for summer.

However, there are some ways I’ve thought of to make your January a more positive and enjoyable month:

  • Planning for the new year: The new year is about reflecting on the previous year and thinking about the next coming year. Some of you may have in mind new years resolutions or goals that you hope to achieve this year. You may either write these ideas down or if possible organise and start fulfilling your dreams now! Examples may be booking your dream holiday, applying for a new job or getting that gym membership.
  • Exercise: I would suggest this all of the time, not just for January! Although I would say that exercise is even better for brightening your mood during those dark, cold months. I attend yoga classes once a week and I would really recommend it as I feel more physically and mentally fit from doing this. However, you don’t need to attend regular classes, workouts in your room or a walk around the park is just as good.
  • Make the most of cold, winter nights: January and even winter isn’t going to last forever so why not enjoy it! This is the time for long, hot bubble baths, lighting lots of candles and staying cosy in bed watching TV – while drinking a hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream 🙂
  • Making your house as tidy and cosy as you can: As many people will spend most of their time indoors during this month, it is an ideal time to clean out and tidy up the house. I have started to love searching for winter home and bedroom ideas on Pinterest. You can be as creative as you want. This may even lead to a new project or goal.
  • Using a slow cooker: The use of the slow cooker is perfect for cooking warm food like soup this month. Even if you are not a lover of soup, there are lots of recipes to try. I would recommend using this YouTube channel:

Enjoy January and happy new year!

April is Autism Awareness Month

Hey April is Autism Awareness Month so I want to talk to you about what Autism is and advise you on what to do if you ever meet someone who is on the Autistic Spectrum. I am passionate about this subject as I have met so many people who have ASD. While meeting these amazing people I feel that many people are unaware of Autism. This is why I am writing this post, to educate more people about it.

What is Autism?

The National Autistic Society states that Autism is a lifelong disability affecting how a person communicates and relates to other people. There are different forms of Autism (from mild to severe) and it affects each person differently. Most people with Autism see, hear and experience the world differently. There is no cure for Autism but with the right support people with ASD have fulfilled lives.

Signs and Symptoms of Autism

The NHS claims that the two most common signs of Autism are:

  • difficulties with social communication and interaction – meaning that they find it hard to make friends or to join in conversations
  • repetitive behaviour, routines and activities – this will involve fixed daily routines or repetitive body movements such as rocking.

However signs and symptoms of Autism vary from person to person. Here are some more symptoms:

  • Sensory sensitivity – being over or under sensitive to certain sounds, lights or smells. This can lead to someone with Autism to have a meltdown known as sensory overloads.
  • Difficulty understanding body language, facial expressions or gestures
  • Taking what people say literally, especially when people use metaphors
  • Lack of eye contact or too much eye contact
  • Struggles with sharing their feelings and understanding other peoples feelings
  • May say or do things that can appear rude
  • May not speak or have delayed speech
  • Obsessions with certain objects or people
  • Unaware of danger

I genuinely believe that everyone is on the Autistic Spectrum as everyone shows at least one trait that someone who is Autistic would have: some people love routines and structure, some people take what others say literally and some people are not very emphatic towards others. But people who gain a diagnosis strongly demonstrate all of the signs of Autism.

How you can help people with ASD

Here are some ways to help someone with Autism to live easier, fulfilling lives:

  • Using simple language, short sentences when talking to them
  • Stick to a certain routine that they are comfortable with
  • Be aware of sensory sensitivities e.g. a noisy environment, wearing bright coloured clothes or strong perfume
  • Being understanding towards their needs and difficulties
  • Using visual aids of what is going to happen

I hope that you have enjoyed reading this post and know a bit more about Autism. People with Autism want to be loved and accepted as much as anyone would. x

Ways to deal with exam stress

As exam season will be approaching soon I want to share with you ways on how I coped with stress. I also want to educate you on what stress is and what it can do to you physically and mentally.

Mind Charity (2019) defines stress as people’s reactions to being under pressure in situations where they either have lots going on or in events where they don’t have much control over what happens. Even though stress is not a medical condition, it can lead to mental illness with anxiety and depression being the most common ones. Stress can make you feel and behave differently, for example some people may feel more irritable or more anxious about their life. Some people may find themselves snapping at people more often or becoming more tearful than usual. In addition to a change in your behaviour, stress can also affect you physical. It may give you a headache or an sore stomach. Some people may over sleep, not sleep at all or gain a poor diet; which can make you more emotionally stressed.

While studying for my GSCEs and A-Levels I would become so nervous and feel stressed towards exam season. I realised while I was studying for my QTS skills tests (which I passed both first time 🙂 ) that I still hate exams and would still stress over them. So this is some advice on how I coped during this horrible period:

  • Speaking to people you trust:

I spoke to my mum and dad where they listened to my worries and did their best to support me. While revising for my Maths QTS they would help me with the mental arithmetic part by asking me questions, timing me and discussing with me my answers. I also spoke to some colleagues at work about how hard I found the Maths practice papers. It was great talking to them because I felt that they could really emphasise with me as they had been through exams and some even the same QTS skills test. All of these people had given me great advice and positivity towards the exams.

  • Mediation/Hypnosis clips on YouTube:

The week before both of my exams I would listen to a positive mediation or hypnosis clip on YouTube before I went to sleep. This made me feel more positive and confident for the exams. On the morning of the exam I would listen to a 5/10 minute positive mediation clip. Here are my favourite ones:

  • Not revising very shortly before the exam:

I found that this really helped me. I did not revise the night before both of my QTS skills tests as I focused more on staying calm and ready for the exam.

  • Regular breaks:

While revising for my QTS skills tests, I would do one practice test then do something different e.g. eat lunch, tidy room or even look through my phone and then do another practice test or go through the answers. Do what is best for you.

  • Exercising:

I would do this during some of my breaks. I would either go to the gym or go out for a walk. Exercising releases healthy, positive endorphins which is good for your brain.

So here are my ways that helped me with my exam stress. I hoped this has helped and the very best of luck on whatever exams you will be taking.

Hello Fresh Favourites in 2018

In 2018 one of my new years resolutions was to eat more healthy meals and become more interested and involved in cooking. I feel that I could not of achieved this without the help of Hello Fresh.

Hello Fresh is a company that creates and delivers recipes boxes to clients. The recipe boxes contain ingredients and instructions needed in order to cook meals selected by the client.

I love Hello Fresh mainly because it has helped me live a healthier life. I have chosen not to eat as much dairy due to personal and health reasons and I feel that Hello Fresh has helped me with this. Even though I do not buy the recipe boxes, I use the website to help me with the cooking in addition to informing me on what ingredients to buy.

Here are my favourite meals that I have cooked in 2018:

Roasted Garlicky Lentils and Sweet Potato Wedges – This meal is one of the most healthiest meal that I have ever made and tasted. I adapted the recipe displayed on the Hello Fresh website by not including the feta cheese. I would of never would of thought of combining lemony garlic lentils with sweet potatoes, peppery rocket and fresh pomegranate seeds together but this combination added so much flavour. This is a dish that I would definitely make again!

Oven Baked Salmon with Black Garlic Sauce, Steam-Fried Veggies and Roasted New Potatoes – I love salmon so this dish was one of the first meals that I just had to cook. I did not include unsalted butter in my meal. It was the first time that I had heard of black garlic sauce. I wouldn’t usually include a sauce to pour over salmon and veg but the black garlic sauce with it made it taste so sweet – perfect for a oven-baked salmon. This is definitely a recipe I would cook again.

Pork And Apple Burger with Rosemary Wedges and Pea Shoot Salad – I really wanted a cheat meal this day but decided to go for a healthy version of a cheat meal instead. Everyone loves a burger and I discovered that pork and apple is a classic combination to include in a burger. The rosemary wedges and pea shoot salad tasted very good to!

Fragrant Caribbean Beef with Coconut Rice and Sweetcorn Salsa – This meal was one of the first meals that I had made using the Hello Fresh website. For me it was an adventurous dish that I had thoroughly enjoyed. It was the first time that I had tasted coconut rice and combined it with sweetcorn salsa. I cooked exactly what was said on the Hello Fresh website as it contains no dairy. This meal was filled with flavour. I feel that this meal is suitable on those cold winter nights and it funnily enough did feel like I was in the Caribbean!

Sea Bass with Roasted Sweet Potatoes and Brazilian Salsa – I love sea bass so I just had to cook this for myself. I adapted this recipe by boiling asparagus instead of frying green peppers. This exotic dish is beautifully flavoured and the sea bass goes so well alongside roasted sweet potato and a zesty salsa.

So here are my favourite dishes of 2018. Hoping to cook and blog more in 2019 x

2018 Fave Beauty Purchases

Hey there! Hope you are all enjoying the holidays! Listed below are my favourite beauty products I have purchased in 2018.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

It has been a favourite since 2017 and it definitely is in 2018. I have discovered that mixing two shades of foundation together works very well in order to give me some colour. I was also matched with Rattan shade in the Double Wear this year due to the colour matching with my skin whenever I would apply fake tan. I have learnt that this product makes dry skin look flawless as well.

Real Techniques Finish Miracle Sculpting Sponge

Through using this I have found it so much easier to apply and blend makeup compared to when I used brushes! Definitely one of my best beauty purchases.

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Powder Bronzer and Estee Lauder Double Wear Highlighting Cushion Stick

I have pale, sensitive skin so I need to be so careful when buying highlighting and contouring kits. Buying both of these products enable shape to my face without it looking fake. The products are so lightweight as well which is perfect!

Estee Lauder Custom Coverage Correcting Duo (Green)

I found this product perfect for covering my red blemishes!

Vaseline Lip Therapy Aloe Vera

In the past I would not usually wear lip balms to moisturise my lips but this was essential while I was on Roaccutane. My lips were a lot more moist and soft when applying this.

Johnson’s Baby Lotion

My skin became dry and sensitive this year due to taking Roaccutane. Wearing this after I had a shower felt amazing and my skin felt so smooth and soft. This product doesn’t contain any oils or harsh chemicals which is perfect for my sensitive skin. If you are currently taking any medication that drys out your skin or naturally have dry skin I would really recommend using this!

Aussie Miracle Repair for Damaged Hair Collection

Taking Roaccutane and spending a month in Thailand unfortunately damaged my hair. My hair is sadly not as thick and as long as it was at the start of this year. So now I am currently focusing on getting my hair back to where it was. I instantly feel a difference from using these products.

Estee Lauder DayWear Moisturiser

Whatever skin type you have it is important to moisturise! I had developed very dry skin this year due to taking Roaccutane. Using this product every day and night helped make my skin a little less dry.

Hope you have enjoyed reading.x

Estee Lauder Double Wear – The Best Foundation Ever

I want to recommend to you all my favourite foundation – Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place. Words can not describe how amazing this foundation is.

Estee Lauder Double Wear is said to stay on your face for 24 hours and leave your face looking flawless and natural through heat, humidity and nonstop activity (Estee Lauder, 2018) .  It is said to feel lightweight and comfortable where it doesn’t smudge or come off (Estee Lauder, 2018). This product comes in 61 different shades and is suitable for all skin types. It is said to be suitable for everyone of all ages and it includes SPF 10 (Estee Lauder, 2018).

Estee Lauder Double Wear in shade Ecru
Estee Lauder Double Wear in shades Ecru and Rattan

I started to use this foundation around 18 months ago replacing it with MAC studio fix. For this foundation I would only need to use a small amount after applying my Estee Lauder Illuminator primer, my Estee Lauder Double Wear Custom Coverage Correcting Duo and my Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Flawless Wear Concealer. I currently apply the foundation with a Real Techniques Miracle Sculpting Sponge  but have done previously with a Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. The shade I use is Ecru which is a perfect match to my skin tone. But I use Rattan when I am wearing fake tan and also mix a little bit in with Ecru when I want a little bit of colour to my pale face. The lovely people who work at Estee Lauder in Roomes Upminster are experts who will truthfully match your foundation shade to your skin tone as well as give you advice on how to apply the foundation.

When wearing this foundation it feels and looks amazing. Its lightweight texture feels like I am not wearing any foundation and it covers my blemishes very well naturally. This foundation literally does stay on your face for the whole day whatever the weather and how busy your day is unlike the MAC studio fix. Whenever I wore MAC studio fix to a 12 hour day at work the foundation would come off (especially in the summer). This is not the case with Estee Lauder. I wear the foundation to work, whenever I got the chance to on holiday and every time I go out socialising and it didn’t come off once.

November 2018 – Wearing Estee Lauder Double Wear (shade: Ecru)
October 2018 – Wearing Estee Lauder Double Wear in Las Vegas (shade: Ecru mixed with Rattan)

I know for a fact that this foundation is suited to all skin types due to my experiences. I have had oily/combination skin, acne prone skin, sensitive and dry skin due to taking Roaccutane where my skin has always looked flawless due to wearing this foundation. When I had acne prone skin this foundation in addition to applying Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Flawless Wear Concealer would cover my pimples and acne. I had suffered from cystic acne early this year and some people had even told me that they didn’t realise I suffered until I had told them!

December 2017 – Wearing Estee Lauder Double Wear while I had cystic acne (shade: Ecru)

When I had oily/combination skin for years this foundation would not create any horrible, shiny, greasy parts like it would in other foundations I have used. It also didn’t smudge or come off at the start or end of the day. My skin felt smooth and non greasy as well.

April 2017 – When I started wearing Estee Lauder Double Wear (shade: Ecru)

While I was on Roaccutane I developed very dry skin where wearing this foundation didn’t make my face cakey at all! But with any foundation it will when you apply too much product on your face so it is important to use a small amount. I would also advise as well not to apply any setting spray as you do not need it!

June 2018 – Wearing Estee Lauder while I was on Roaccutane (shade: Rattan)

My mum who is in her 50s wears this foundation as well and loves it! She has mature skin and it works well making her look younger. I currently have normal and sensitive skin where I still love how flawless this foundation is. This foundation does not react to my skin due to it being sensitive.

December 2018 – Wearing Estee Lauder Double Wear on the way to Winterville (shade: Ecru mixed with Rattan)
October 2018 – Wearing Estee Lauder on holiday to Las Vegas (shade: Rattan)

Overall I would recommend this foundation to everyone with all skin types and tones. The only con would be the price as £33.50 is expensive but I personally think that it is so worth it as I feel that it ticks all of the boxes!

Visit the Estee Lauder website and grab one

Enjoy and feel free to comment and message me anything
